MISSION STATEMENT
There are an indefinite number of voiceless species of fauna and flora that inhabit our natural world. As our own species progresses, human civilisation increasingly threatens the voiceless ones.
My mission is to help those without have a voice. I aim to give time aiding conservation organisations by using my experience and skill-set to promote campaigns and public knowlegde – in the form of conservation photography and design.
ABOUT
Rewkachu Green was founded in 2010 by myself – Rew Mitchell. My personal ethics have always been of the highest standard in regards to the natural world and all that encompasses.
I have been in the creative industry since 1994 and have run my own photography and design business since 2004. This website will only show my relevant work and information. My conservation work at present is very limited because this is the beginning, I suggest you click the link below to view my larger galleries and to find out more about my experience and client base.
POLICIES
"Photographs deliver information, which should be both accurate and honest. Inaccurate or dishonest captioning reduces the effectiveness of the image as a tool for conservation, subverts its message and undermines public trust." The iLCP
• My conservation photography will be shot in a documentary style, keeping true the places and events before me.
• The only instance in which I may use image manipulation, will be during graphic design. The client will always be made fully aware of this.
• I will take on any project great or small as long as I fully agree with the message wishing to be conveyed, subject of the campaign or ethic
of the non-profit organisation approaching me.
• Usage of my photographs or designs will be discussed and agreed on before the start of the work. I ask that my permission be sought for any
further usage of my completed work (which was not known of at the time of the original discussion before the work took place).
• Finally, for conservation photography I politely request that in most cases my travel expenses are paid/reimbursed. I will not request any
reimbursement for food, drink, time or anything else.
• For my design: I of course need to cover my cost of living, so if the client is happy with my work after using me a couple of times, I will
politely bring up the subject and discuss a minimal amount pay for any future work. Remember, I want to help – I most definitely do not want to make
a living out of conservation.
HISTORY
At age four, I vividly remember pestering my mother into allowing me to watch a television show that perhaps was too strong for a young child. The show was Sir David Attenboroughs' "Life on Earth", the year 1979. At age four, my personal character was set in stone. I was a biophile – although the word "biophile" would not be invented for another twenty years. Like many people I grew up to the sound of Attenborough passing on endless knowledge and showing wonderous things. My interest in the natural world never waned, in fact I became increasingly outspoken about my beliefs.
By my early teens I dreamed of changing the world. So much of the earth was (and still is!) being destroyed at an alarming rate. I felt helpless yet passionate to try and make a difference. I would tell family and friends of the planets plight and how fixing it would be as simple as everyone doing their bit to become a little greener. Back then, the green issue was a joke and in its infancy. It was not of social importance, it was never news worthy and it was highly mocked by most. Yes, these days there has been a social awakening, global consciousness has been raised and it is now at the forefront on many news topics.
I felt completely out-gunned, and as I got myself into large student debts I found myself losing the will to fight it. I left university and started working in various jobs just to try and stop the debts from growing. The debts continued to grow however, and I found myself caught up in trying to make ends meet. I continued to talk to co-workers and managers about how they could make their workplace environmentally friendly, but I was simply told that it was not efficient for the business.
After ten years I made a bad conscious decision, the lack of compassion from most of the people around me was making me unhappy - so I decided to keep it to myself. I believed I could not make a difference and life was passing me by. So I fell into the rat race to pay off debts and gave up on my planet saving mission. My personal ethics and green practices remained, I had just given up trying to convert people.
It's now 2010, I'm older, wiser, slightly worse looking and most importantly to me - free of debt. I feel I've learned my trade pretty well, I have a client base that I'm proud of, and I'm doing pretty well. It's now time for me to launch my endeavour - Rewkachu Green.
